How It Works
The Motus AZ+ 1064nm Nd:YAG laser penetrates the nail plate — reaching the nail bed where the fungus lives — without damaging the surrounding tissue.
The 1064nm wavelength passes through the nail plate — which is largely transparent to this frequency — reaching the nail bed and matrix beneath where onychomycosis fungus colonizes.
The laser energy generates heat within the nail bed that is lethal to fungal cells — disrupting their cellular structure and destroying the infection without harming surrounding tissue, skin, or the nail matrix itself.
As the treated nail grows out over the following months, clear, healthy nail replaces the infected tissue. Full nail regrowth takes time — toenails grow approximately 1–2mm per month — but the fungus is gone from the root.
Important: Nail fungus results require patience — the nail must physically grow out for clear results to become fully visible. Most patients see meaningful improvement over 3–6 months as the treated nail grows forward. Your provider will assess severity and the number of affected nails at consultation to give you a realistic timeline.
Why Laser
Oral antifungal medications (like Terbinafine) are effective but come with significant considerations — particularly for men who are active, work long hours, or have any liver health concerns.
Treatment Timeline
Sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Mild warmth during treatment — no numbing required. You return to all normal activities immediately.
The treated nail begins growing forward. Some patients notice the healthy nail edge appearing at the base. The fungus is being eliminated from the root outward.
Healthy, clear nail is increasingly visible as the infected portion grows out. The improvement is progressive — more visible each month.
Complete nail regrowth reveals the full outcome. Toenails take longer than fingernails. Most patients require 3–4 sessions total for complete clearance.
Questions Answered
Most patients describe a mild warming sensation as the laser passes over the nail — comfortable and well-tolerated without numbing. The Motus AZ+'s cooled sapphire tip manages surface temperature throughout the session. Treatment of a full set of toenails takes approximately 20–30 minutes and requires no preparation or recovery.
Most patients require 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. The number of affected nails, severity of infection, and how long the fungus has been present all influence how many sessions are needed. Your provider will assess all affected nails at consultation and give you a realistic session estimate. Mild or early-stage infections may resolve in fewer sessions.
Laser treatment destroys the existing infection — but reinfection is possible if the source of exposure isn't addressed. Gym locker rooms, communal showers, and nail salons are common reinfection environments. Your provider will discuss prevention strategies at your appointment — including antifungal sprays for shoes, moisture management, and hygiene practices that significantly reduce the risk of recurrence.
Yes — there are no activity restrictions during or between sessions. You can train, swim, and use communal facilities normally. We do recommend wearing flip-flops in shared shower areas and using an antifungal spray in your training shoes between sessions to prevent reinfection while treatment is ongoing.

Book a ConsultationIndividual results may vary. Full nail clearance requires nail regrowth over several months. A consultation is required prior to treatment.
