The Science of Sculpting
truSculpt Flex · Muscle Building
truSculpt Flex uses Multi-Directional Stimulation (MDS) — bio-electrical impulses that contract targeted muscle groups at intensities beyond what voluntary exercise can produce. The result is real muscle hypertrophy, increased fiber recruitment, and visible definition in the areas you train hardest.
Think of it as the most efficient workout your muscles have ever had — 45 minutes, completely passive, targeting the exact areas you choose.
truSculpt iD · Fat Reduction
truSculpt iD uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to heat and permanently destroy the subcutaneous fat layer above the muscle — revealing the definition underneath. Fat cells are eliminated through the body's lymphatic system and do not return.
In as little as one 15-minute session per area, the fat that's been obscuring your muscle definition is permanently cleared — with a secondary skin tightening benefit included.
The Treatment Plan
Phase 1 · Weeks 1–2
Fat reduction is performed first. RF energy permanently destroys the subcutaneous fat layer in targeted areas. Up to 6 areas treated simultaneously in a single 15-minute session. The body begins clearing destroyed fat cells through the lymphatic system over the following weeks.
Phase 2 · Weeks 2–6
While fat clearance is underway, the Flex series begins — typically 4–6 sessions spaced 2–5 days apart. MDS stimulation builds muscle mass and definition in the same areas being cleared of fat. Both processes are happening simultaneously, accelerating the overall transformation timeline.
Phase 3 · Weeks 8–12
Fat clearance completes at approximately 8–12 weeks post-iD treatment. Flex muscle development peaks in the same window. This is when the combined outcome becomes fully visible — leaner contour, visible muscle definition, improved body composition throughout.
Week 1
Fat reduction session — multiple areas treated simultaneously. 15 min per area. Return to normal activity immediately.
Weeks 2–6
4–6 Flex sessions, 2–5 days apart. Muscle building begins. Sessions are 45 minutes, fully passive.
Weeks 8–12
Fat clearance completes. Muscle adaptation peaks. Combined transformation fully visible. Assessment and maintenance planning.
Ongoing
Quarterly Flex sessions. Additional iD as needed. Results are permanent for treated fat — ongoing Flex preserves and builds muscle.
Candidacy
You train consistently but stubborn fat in specific areas is hiding the muscle definition you've worked for. The combination protocol removes the fat obscuring your results while amplifying the muscle underneath — producing the visible definition your workouts alone can't achieve.
You're not just looking for weight loss — you want a better ratio of muscle to fat in specific areas. The abdomen, flanks, thighs, and glutes are the most common targets. This protocol reshapes body composition without surgery, needles, or significant downtime.
You want meaningful body change but don't have time for surgery or recovery. Both treatments have zero required downtime — you can return to work and normal activities the same day. The passive nature of both treatments means zero effort during the session itself.
Important: This protocol addresses body composition and contouring — it is not a weight loss solution. Ideal candidates are within a healthy weight range with specific areas of stubborn fat and desire for improved muscle definition. Patients with electronic implants (pacemakers), metal implants in treatment areas, or pregnancy are not candidates. A consultation is required to confirm candidacy for both treatments.
Questions Answered
Fat reduction and muscle building are typically thought of as separate goals — but they share the same visual outcome: visible definition. A sculpted physique requires both less fat obscuring the muscle and more muscle creating the contour beneath. Achieving one without the other produces a partial result.
truSculpt iD removes the fat layer that's hiding existing or developing muscle. truSculpt Flex builds and defines that muscle simultaneously. Together they reshape the area from both directions at once — producing a leaner, more defined contour that neither treatment could achieve independently in the same timeframe.
Yes — and this is by design. The most common treatment areas for the combined protocol are the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and glutes — all areas where stubborn fat commonly overlies muscle groups that benefit from stimulation. truSculpt iD removes the fat above the muscle in those areas. truSculpt Flex then works the muscle beneath.
The two devices work at different tissue layers — iD targets subcutaneous fat above the muscle, Flex targets the muscle itself — so they don't conflict. Your provider will map out the specific areas and sequence based on your goals at consultation.
The sequencing is strategic. truSculpt iD results take 8–12 weeks to fully emerge as the body clears destroyed fat cells through the lymphatic system. By starting iD first, fat clearance is already underway when the Flex series begins — meaning the muscle development and fat reduction processes overlap in time rather than running sequentially.
This significantly shortens the overall protocol timeline. If Flex were done first, you'd be waiting an additional 12 weeks after completing it before starting iD and seeing the full combined result. The overlap approach means both processes peak around the same time — maximizing efficiency and keeping the total treatment window as short as possible.
Neither treatment has required downtime. truSculpt iD feels like a warm, deep heat in the treatment area — often described as a hot stone massage — and patients return to normal activities immediately after. Some mild warmth or tenderness may persist for a few hours.
truSculpt Flex feels like a strong, rhythmic muscle contraction — intense but not painful, and fully adjustable. Mild muscle soreness for 24–48 hours after each Flex session is normal and expected — the same feeling you'd have after an intense workout. You can exercise, work, and go about your day normally throughout the entire protocol.
The fat reduction component is permanent — destroyed fat cells do not return. However, remaining fat cells can still expand with significant weight gain, so maintaining a stable healthy weight protects your results long term.
The muscle building component requires maintenance — just as gym-built muscle gradually diminishes without continued training, Flex-built muscle benefits from periodic maintenance sessions. Most patients schedule quarterly Flex maintenance sessions to sustain and continue building their results, and additional iD treatments if new areas become a priority.
Yes — both truSculpt iD and truSculpt Flex use radiofrequency and bio-electrical energy respectively, neither of which interacts with skin pigmentation. Both are safe and effective across all Fitzpatrick skin types and tones — making the combined protocol accessible to a wider range of patients than many body contouring options.
The protocol is suitable for both men and women. Ideal candidates are within a healthy weight range — truSculpt iD is optimized for targeted fat pockets rather than large-volume fat reduction, and truSculpt Flex works most effectively when the overlying fat layer is not excessive.

Book a ConsultationIndividual results may vary. Clinical studies report averages of 24% fat reduction (truSculpt iD) and 30% muscle mass increase (truSculpt Flex) per treated area. This protocol is not a weight loss treatment. A consultation is required prior to both treatments to confirm candidacy.
